Race Day Packet Pickup/ Pre-Race Registration
Have runners fill out registration form, pay fees & assign race numbers, also distribute race numbers with pins, t-shirt (if we have enough at registration) in race bag.
This job is for those who enjoy working in a hectic environment and have a lot of patience.
Volunteer Coordinator
Responsible for providing the volunteers needed for each team member by processing all volunteer sign-up sheets. This person is responsible for team leaders and getting the status on number of volunteers they still need to accomplish their tasks.
Race Material Distribution
Distributes race forms to retail stores, health clubs, at races or anywhere else you think of. This job is fun to do with family or with a group.
Course Logistics
Responsible for marking the course, distributing course supplies (tables, cups etc.)
and posting mile signs.
Water Station
Help set up water stations, assist in filling cups prior to start of race and handing cups to runners as they pass by. For volunteers who don't mind getting wet.
Mile Timer
Responsible for calling out times to runners as they pass your mile mark. This requires a person with a lot of enthusiasm and a load voice for calling out times.
Food Distributor
Assists in the setup and distribution of fruit, food and refreshments (water, Gatorade) to race participants after the runners have finished. Requires volunteers to be assertive and able to smile at the same time.
Race Marshals
Volunteers who are positioned along the course to direct participants to stay on the course and away from cars.
First Aid Center
Volunteer needs to be ready to assist with Band-Aids or other first aid needs. Also, volunteer will need access to a cell phone that is charged and operates at race site.
Start & Finish Line
Assists in the setup of the start/finish line, may require some heavy lifting. There are a variety of positions available:
- Chute Loader-direct runners into the proper chute
- Chute Movers-keep race participates moving
- Tag Taker/ Spindle Holder: Work in pairs to place runner tags onto spindles in order of finish.
- Finish Timers: operate a timing device which times each individual runner as they cross the finish line. Requires a person with a fast thumb and a whole lot of patience.
